There’s a few new faces around the gym. Mike, Gillian, Julie and Molly. They all started coming with existing members so the veterans they’ve partnered with get to return to their roots and do the beginner workouts again. Because we rarely (sometimes never) repeat workouts it’s a great opportunity to see how far they’ve come. Of course they’re all such phenomenal athletes that such easy workouts wouldn’t challenge them much at all. So I make them wear the vest and use increased loads, making easy workouts… not.
This graph was taken from Google Trends. It shows the internet search popularity of CrossFit, Bally Fitness, Gold’s Gym, and 24 Hour Fitness. Notice the huge spike each New Year for all big commercial gyms. CrossFit’s growth in popularity has been steady with the occasional spike due to large newspaper or magazine publications. However, it appears CrossFit will soon overshadow even 24 Hour Fitness in popularity.
One of the key differences with CrossFit is that it is a program and supportive community that seeks to improve the health, fitness, and well-being of it’s members, not a membership driven gym with several hundred or even a few thousand members which relies on an extremely high turnover rate for it’s success. CrossFit is a process of continual learning and refinement, both in regards to the exercises, as well as nutrition and other lifestyle habits. With the New Year right around the corner, don’t make empty promises. Make a change that will improve your long term health.
One of the many things that makes Crossfit unique is the community it creates. Athletes come together with the shared goal of self improvement and find themselves bonding through mutual suffering. We all recognize effort and fully appreciate its cost. Yes, burpees suck but I couldn’t think of better people to do them with. Tomorrow (Sunday) at 2pm we’re getting together up at Crossft Geneseo for the “12 Days of Christmas” workout. It’s going to be that special kind of fun only Crossfit can deliver. Come for the workout or just to watch others, bring a dish and have some fun.
Like this, but the maids are doing pullups instead of milking
Went up to Crossfit Geneseo this weekend for a Fort Hood Memorial workout. It was called the lumberjack 20 so a few of us exercised creative freedom and rocked the flannel. The workout was tough but honored those who were lost.
