My sister started coming (after many… many conversations about it). She’s done workout DVD’s at home and I think she used to run, but nothing has stuck. She’s not really the pain and suffering type so I didn’t think I’d ever see her do a wallball, but she’s come back a couple times and she’s also done some workouts at home. It makes me proud as a brother and surprised as a trainer. Past behavior is a great predictor of future actions, but maybe not when it comes to exercise. With so many different options available… gyms, programs, DVDs, running, walking, sports, classes, and everything in between, you’re biggest problem should be digging through the options and finding something you like. So you’ve tried this diet or that program and it didn’t work, or maybe it worked for a bit but the progress slowed and your interest faded. Should you give up on all the rest? Just because you tried brussel sprouts once and you didn’t like them, should you abandon all vegetables? No. Find something that excites you. Find something that works for you. Find something that you can stick with, because it’s out there. There is no one size fits all approach to fitness. What I do isn’t for everyone, but neither are brussel sprouts. You won’t know unless you try.
Turn up the volume on this video and listen to Don breathing during this 5 rep max effort attempt. Holding 135lbs over your head and then squatting with it requires an incredible amount of stabilization. Aggressively holding your breath before the descent helps to solidify the midline. Don splits his time between wrecking motorcycles and Crossfit. Strong work Dude.
Some time ago, pretty much when we met… I realized that Bethany was nuts. For some reason though, I’m still taken back by the ridiculous things she does with her time. Whether it be 100 day burpee challenges, 100 day pullup challenges, 100 hour metcons, long runs, or million kilometer rowing chellenges. She’s not too keen on dull tomorrows. But when I heard she’s going to row 42,000 meters in one day, I really thought the eggs I ate for breakfast were turning on me. Rowing sucks, for everyone. Long rows suck more. And I don’t know about really long rows because I’ve never done one (and never plan too). But I’ll cheer my crazy friend on, and support a good cause. You should do the same.
After a long recovery, barb will rejoin the 5am class tomorrow. Can’t wait to have her smiling face back in the ranks.
Things are moving forward, although slowly, with the new building. I hope to close in April and begin renovations immediately after. If only I knew a bunch of strong, motivated people who could help…
Happy places
